Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar met DMDK chief Vijayakanth at the actor-politician’s party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of reports of strains in ties between assembly poll allies Congress and DMK.
“It is a friendly visit and we discussed many issues including the current political situation,” Thirunavukkarasar told reporters after the meeting.
Incidentally, the TNCC is an ally of the DMK, which is opposed to the DMDK.
Though the alliance has been continued for the local body polls, expected to be completed by December, Congress leaders are reportedly miffed over lower allocation of seats to the party by DMK.
The TNCC chief has been meeting leaders of various political parties. Thirunavukarasar said that the two leaders discussed the TN local body polls, which have now been postponed, but there was no discussion related to a poll alliance. We discussed some common issues, according to him.
Earlier in the day, Thirunavukkarasar issued a statement confirming the Congress party’s participation in the rail roko protest organised by various farmers’ association on October 17 and 18.
