There is some ‘gain’ for DMK in Parandur project: Vijay

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay met the villagers protesting against the move to set up a new airport in Parandur in Ekanapuram.

While addressing the villagers he stated that this was his commencement of his ‘field politics’.

He said that he was not against development or airport, but it must not be set up in fertile farmland.

The TVK chief slammed the ruling DMK raising questions about why they oppose tungsten project, but support Parandur airport.

He further alleged that there is some ‘gain’ for ruling DMK dispensation in the proposed Parandur airport project, and says people understand it.

He urged the government to reconsider the Parandur airport project and instead build the airport in an area with barren lands. Vijay also questioned the ruling DMK’s stance on development projects, pointing out the party’s inconsistent support for farmers and projects depending on whether they’re in power or opposition. “Why the DMK opposes projects as an opposition party but supports them when it is on the other side, he questioned and said ‘DMK government is playing tricks on people.”

The actor-politician also addressed the farmers, saying, “You have been fighting for almost 910 days. I will stand by you. The video in which the boy named Rahul spoke melted my heart. The elders are the most important people in the family, and farmers like you are the most important people in the country.”

Vijay further stated that he decided to start his journey in politics after being moved by the struggles of the farmers. He said, “I felt that this was the right place for that. My field political journey begins with your blessings.”
