Makers of Jyotika’s Ponmagal Vandhal, the first big Tamil film to be straightly released on OTT, were in a state of the shock as the film was leaked by piracy site Tamil Rockers ahead of its official digital release.
Following this, Amazon Prime had to release the film ahead of the originally planned schedule. It is to be noted that film had a special view for select members of the film fraternity through the OTT platform recently and many were appreciating the film after watching it.
While most films that get leaked are of low quality for the initial few days and then leak a HD version, Ponmagal Vandhal seems to have been leaked with a HD version itself.
Recently, the movie’s director J J Fredrick said, “Jyotika madam said yes soon after I finished narrating my story to her without asking too many questions about my experience or previous work.
After seeing the output of the first-day shoot, she was very, very happy. Her support throughout this film helped me a lot. At the end of every day’s shoot, she used to text me about the shot that she liked.”
In a chat with Hindustan Times, Jyotika opened up about her favourite show and what kind of films she’s been watching in lockdown. “I recently saw Money Heist. Suriya and I binge-watched the show. We loved it. I also saw Thappad and a few films of Ayushmann Khurrana. I’ve been watching a lot of Hindi films lately because there’s hardly any new Tamil content,” Jyotika said.
Ponmagal Vandhal, which stars Jyotika in the role of a lawyer, is the first mainstream Tamil film to have a direct OTT release, bypassing theatres that are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
