Tamil Nadu plans major changes in university administration by making CM as Chancellor

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed restructuring the administration of state-run universities by making Chief Minister Vijay the Chancellor instead of the Governor.

Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan said the proposal aligns with the government’s view that the elected head of the State should oversee higher education institutions.

The government has also suggested expanding the committee responsible for selecting Vice-Chancellors from three members to five.

According to the minister, the changes are intended to strengthen the governance framework of universities across the State.
