Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan’s wife and son have tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier, his parents-in-law had tested positive for the infection. All four of them are undergoing treatment at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy.
The test reports of Radhakrishnan’s wife and son came out to be positive on Monday, while the health secretary himself tested negative. Responding to a journalist’s on Twitter, Radhakrishnan said: “Yes, My father-in-law, Dr Nagarajan, and [mother-in-law] Mrs Nagarajan tested positive on Friday night.
As close family contacts myself, [wife] Krithika and son Arvind got tested at the state public health lab today [Monday]. Wife, son tested positive. All are in Government King’s institute corona hospital.”
The official’s parents-in-law had arrived from Madurai last week and had undergone test for the infection as a routine exercise. On Saturday, the two elderly family members and two domestic helps tested positive. They were all sent to the King Institute for treatment.
Radhakrishnan is a senior IAS officer. He was the special officer-in-charge of Covid-19 related work in Chennai. On June 12, the Tamil Nadu government replaced then health secretary Beela Rajesh with J Radhakrishnan.
The official has been in isolation at the State guesthouse. He has undergone the test to rule out infection thrice. His results have been negative.
