Tamil Nadu CM Joseph Vijay takes oath as MLA at secretariat

C Joseph Vijay on Monday took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Tiruchirappalli East constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of senior leaders, legislators and government officials shortly after Vijay’s victory from the constituency.

With the swearing-in, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister formally entered the state legislature as an elected representative from Tiruchirappalli East.

Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday at a ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay at 10 AM. Along with him, nine ministers also took oath as members of the new Cabinet.

Among those inducted into the Cabinet were KG Arunraj, Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand, Selvi S Keerthana and Dr TK Prabhu.

Several political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, and personalities from the Tamil film industry attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Vijay, the founder of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), secured the support of 120 MLAs in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly with backing from the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML.

With his swearing-in, he became the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu since 1967 who does not belong to either the DMK or the AIADMK.

According to a Raj Bhavan release, the Governor directed Vijay to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on or before May 13.
