The Tamil Nadu Assembly’s budget session is commencing today, with finance minister O Panneerselvam presenting the revised state budget for the year 2016-17.
This would be the first full-fledged budget session after the brief session last month when the Governor K Rosaiah delivered his customary address and it was adopted in the House.
Following the budget, the House will see debate on demand for grants for various government departments.
In a statement recently, assembly secretary A M P Jamaludeen said Speaker P Dhanapal has convened the session at 11 am in the secretariat on July 21. “The revised budget for the fiscal 2016-17 will be presented on the day,” Jamaludeen said.
Sources said the session was likely to last for a month as the demand for grants for various departments would be taken after the budget debate and the reply by Panneerselvam.
It is also learnt that the opposition is planning to raise many issues, and hence, the session is expected to be stormy.
It may be recalled that the first session of the 15th Legislative Assembly began on 16 June with the customary address by Governor Dr K Rosaiah. The House was adjourned on 23 June after adopting the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address.
