Wagah Tamil Movie Review

Passes in border

STORY:

Vasu (Vikram Prabhu) becomes BSF jawan with the sole aim of drinking liquor at subsidised rates. He gets posting in Wagah border, and one fine day, he comes across the love of his life, in the form of Khanom (Ranya Rao).

Since she is a Pakistani and is in India to spend time with her grandfather, Vasu accompanies her during her journey back to home, to ensure that she reaches her parents safe.

Alas, Vasu is caught by a bunch of Pakistani armymen, who torture him. As Vasu is about to give up, words uttered by the army chief against India infuse fresh life in them. He bashes everyone and reaches India safe with his ladylove.

ANALYSIS:

Though director GNR Kumaravelan’s Wagah promised something to be like a Mani Ratnam movie, it has ended up like ‘patriotic films’ dished out by Vijayakanth and Perarasu.

For, in its bid to become ‘commercially patriotic’, the film heavily misses out on the emotional connect. Archaic scenes and cliched narration make the movie a tedious watch.

Vikram Prabhu has put in efforts, but in vain. Ranya Rao resembles Hansika Motwani. D Imman’s music is average, while there is nothing much to write about technical departments. This is not something one would expect from Kumaravelan, who made Haridas.

Verdict: Below average

Director: G. N. R. Kumaravelan
