STORY:

Vetrivel (Sasikumar), son of a teacher (Ilavarasu), is a school dropout and a carefree young man. Though he is madly in love with Janani (Miya George), he finds it very difficult to express himself.

While his father hates him, his mother (Vasundara) supports him always. Meanwhile, Vetrivel’s younger brother (Anand Nag) is in love with the daughter (Varsha) of a nearby village’s president (Prabhu).

Since the bigwig hails from a different caste, he convinces Vetrivel’s dad that the marriage between their children cannot happen.

However, with the help of his friends, Vetrivel decides to kidnap the girl. Instead, they end up kidnapping another girl (Nikhila). This creates a whole new set of troubles to the protagonist. How he comes out of it forms the crux of the movie.

ANALYSIS:

Though the director in Sasikumar is always ready to do experiments, the actor in him is careful and treads the tested and familiar path. Vetrivel is one more to the list.

Directed by debutant Vasantha Mani, Vetrivel is a commercial entertainer set in the backdrop of a village. Besides the usual rural masala elements, it also comes with an interesting message.

Sasikumar has delivered the same emotions, but he is right fit for the role. He excels as a village youth. Miya George looks beautiful, and performs too. Romantic scenes between Anand Nag and Varsha have been picturised well.

The likes of Prabhu, Ilavarasu, Viji Chandrasekar and Thambi Ramaiah add value to the film with good performance. Kathir’s cinematography is a big asset, while D Imman’s has tried rural flavour and presented hummable songs.

Too many songs in the first half and predictable scenes are the minus points of Vetrivel. But then, there is no denying that the film has its own positive points.
