STORY:
Arivu (Sivakarthikeyan) lives in a slum in the city, where youngsters are misused by powerful groups as henchmen. He is upset with this trend and wants to lead a fresh lease of life.
Thanks to his efforts, Arivu gets a job in a FMCG company, where Aadhi (Fahadh Faasil) works as marketing head. Arivu places his friend (Vijay Vasanth) in the same company.
When things are going smooth, Arivu’s friend gets killed by Kasi (Prakash Raj). Arivu vows to teach a lesson to his pal’s assailants and finds why he is murdered.
A big shock now awaits Arivu as he has a huge network, which is affecting the society and people, to bust. Does he succeed in his mission or not forms the crux of Velaikkaran.
ANALYSIS
After creating much hype and expectations, Mohan Raja-Sivakarthikeyan combo’s Velaikkaran has finally arrived and it is here to stay. The film, without deviating from the commercial path, delivers a strong message.
Sivakarthikeyan has carefully stepped into the next level to achieve superstardom. There are no punch dialogues or stunt sequences, but still, the actor delivers the right performance. Nayanthara as Mirunalini and Sneha as Kasthuri have delivered goods.
Prakash Raj has come up with a power-packed performance, but the scene-stealer is Fahadh Faasil, who elevates each and every scene he appears. The star cast is huge and the names include Charlie and Vijay Vasanth. But everyone has understood their character and has done justice.
Anirudh’s music, especially background score, proves why he is liked by top heroes. Ramji’s cinematography is another highlight, as the tone changes as per the demand of the scenes. Art direction by Muthuraj deserves a special mention.
On the flip side, the film is lengthy, both in the first and second half. Certain scenes could have been trimmed to make the end-product more interesting. To sum it up, Velaikkaran delivers the message of the hour in a right mix.
