Raja of 3G
STORY:
Adithya (Simbu aka STR) is the grandson of Raghunanthan (Nasser), a super-rich businessman who lives in Madrid, Spain. Though Raghunanthan has all good things in life by his side, he is worried.
The reason for his grouse is- he had parted ways with his daughter Nandhini (Ramya Krishna), for marrying an advocate (Prabhu) against his wishes years ago.
Cut to present, Raghunanthan badly wants to reunite with Nandhini but is unable to do so. In a bid to fulfil his grandfather’s wish, Adithya comes to India on a mission.
Here, he finds his aunt leading a royal life and joins her house as a driver Raja. Nandhini has two daughters- one traditional (Catherine Teresa) and the other modern (Megha Akash).
Though Adithya aka Raja wants to marry the former, he settles with the latter after finding the traditional girl in love with another guy. The rest is all about how he fulfils his grandfather’s wish.
ANALYSIS:
Simbu, who was doing performance oriented roles in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada and Mani Ratnam’s recent Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, is back to mass route in Sundar C-directed Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven.
In a bid to strike a fine balance between the two talents (Simbu and Sundar), the film ends up becoming neither a film of the former nor a movie from the latter’s stable.
Simbu performs well and tries his hands in emotions, comedy, dance etc. Both Catherine Teresa and Megha Akash (of Petta fame) are beautiful, but have nothing much to do in a movie dominated by its hero and so many other characters.
The star cast is huge and the list includes Nasser, Ramya Krishnan, Prabhu, Yogi Babu (whose one-liners are the film’s big saving grace), Suman, Robo Shankar and VTV Ganesh.
Cinematography by Gopi Amarnath is colourful and catchy, while Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s music tests patience. Editor Srikkanth’s scissors could have been more sharp.
The script wanders here and there and the film reminds us of a Telugu movie often (it is remake of Pawan Kalyan starrer Attarintiki Daredi). We expected more from Sundar-Simbu combo though VRV has its own entertaining moments.
