Thupparivaalan Tamil Movie Review 2Home Sherlock

STORY:

Kaniyan Poonkundran (Vishal), a detective, is desperate for a case that would throw enough challenges at him, but in vain. One day, he finally gets the case for which he was waiting for all these days.

It is about a murdered dog and its missing tooth. As the investigation starts, in the company of his friend Mano ( Prasanna), a death happens, adding more to the mystery.

Kaniyan Poonkundran and Mano continue with their investigations. The chain of crimes takes them to a gang of ruthless criminals, led by one Devil (Vinay).

Now Devil is after Kaniyan Poonkundran and Mano, as he gets a whiff of Kaniyan’s investigation and vows to bump him off before he exposes his evil plans, which are laid out in a neat manner.

Who wins the cat and mouse game? Who Devil is and what his real intentions are? Why the dog was murdered in a brutal manner. Answers to all these questions are there in Thupparivalan.

ANALYSIS:

Making crime thrillers is like a cakewalk for Mysskin and he is at it again in Thupparivalan, which has Vishal in the lead role. The Anjathey and Yudhdham Sei maker has delivered a rock soild detective movie.

Though the film reminds us of Sherlock Holmes, we feel at home, as the director assures us that he is only inspired by Holmes and has not copied any of that stuff.

Vishal fits well to the role of Kaniyan Poonkundran and he has delivered what Mysskin would have expected out of him. Prasanna has a good role (though it is similar to the one he enacted in the recent Nibunan) and performed well.

Besides Sherlock Holmes, the film also reminds of Guy Richie’s films, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’s TV series. But there is no denying that Mysskin has left his stamp all over.

Karthik Venkatraman’s cinematography is one of the film’s highlights, while Arrol Corelli’s background score adds more to the mood of the mystery thriller. Editing is good, though the film runs for 2 hours and 39 minutes.

To sum it up, Thupparivalan is yet another Mysskin movie, this time with more raciness. And with Vishal for company, it is an action adventure with a difference. It thrills and chills.
