Tharai Thappattai Tamil Movie Review
For your ears, not eyes
STORY:
Sannasi (Sasikumar) runs a troop of folk artistes and Sooravali (Varalakshmi) is the star attraction of the group. Known for her rapid fast dance moves, she is fiery, bold and outspoken, and has a heart of gold.
She is head over heels for Sannasi, but the latter, despite developing a liking towards her, hides his feelings. Sooravali’s mother wants her daughter to marry a government employee Karuppaiah (R K Suresh) and seeks Sannasi’s help.
Sannasi convinces Sooravali to marry the man of her mother’s choice. But after a year, he comes to know that Karuppaiah is actually a pimp and Sooravali’s life is in danger.
What our hero does now and is he able to save Sooravali from the evil designs of Karuppaiah is what Thaara Thappattai all about, and a Bala-type bloody climax awaits you.
ANALYSIS
No doubt, it was Bala who set a new trend in the late 1990s, when Tamil cinema was caught in a time warp. Sadly, after nearly two decades, the director himself in the middle of one such warp, or trap.
The film is full of Bala templates all over and nothing new has been attempted. And you need a stone heart to watch certain scenes as gore and blood shed are all over.
This is Sasikumar’s best performance till date and the pains he has taken is visible all over. And Varalakshmi is wow, and as she claims in one of the scenes, she is the hero of Thaara Thappattai. Producer R K Suresh delivers a promising performance.
Ilayaraja, in his 100th film, has woven a magic and it is to be felt. Chezhiyan’s cinematography is another advantage of Thaara Thappattai. On the whole, it is a typical Bala film and it is strictly for his fans.
