STORY:

Nachinarku Iniyan (Suriya) aspires to become a CBI officer and his friend wants to become a policeman. But they are unable to achieve their mission, due to corrupt officials.

As his friend commits suicide, Iniyan vows to teach a fitting lesson to the corrupted. He forms a team with four persons (Ramya Krishnan, Senthil, Shivasankar and Sathyan) and they conduct fake raids posing as CBI officers.

They bring out the black money from influential persons and use it for good purposes. In the meantime, an expert Kurinjinathan (Karthik) is appointed by the government to catch the gang.

He works with a corrupt CBI officer Uthaman (Suresh Menon) and a policeman Vetri (Nandha). However, the team led by Suriya is always smart and one step ahead than Kurinjinathan.

The rest is all about- Is Kurinjinathan able to pin down the fake team and whether Iniyan is able to cleanse the system?

ANALYSIS:

For those who are tired of watching Suriya in templated roles, here comes a huge relief in Thaana Serndha Kootam, as the actor delivers a riveting performance in a refreshing character.

He impresses us in each and every scene he appears in this movie set in the backdrop of 1980s, when unemployment was hitting hard the youngsters. Ramya Krishnan provides him solid support, while the rest of the cast- Karthik, Senthil and Suresh Menon (Gautham Vasudev Menon has dubbed for him)- are good.

While Keerthi Menon is wasted in a regular role, RJ Balaji’s charecterisation and performance are rocking. Anirudh has provided an album-hit to Suriya who is longing for one. His background score is equally good.

Dinesh Krishnan’s cinematography and the art director have worked well to bring back the 1980s on screen. Sreekar Prasad’s crisp cuts adds pep to the proceedings.

After Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, director Vignesh Shivan has once again proved that he is smart in writing and packaging. Though the film is a remake of Hindi hit Special 26, he has changed the script to suit the Tamil audience and it has worked well.

On the flipside, the second half gets predicted and preachy. But on the whole, Thaana Serndha Kootam is a festival treat to Suriya fans and the film can be enjoyed by normal audience too.
