Soorarai Pottru Movie Review
STORY:
Nedumaaran Rajangam, shortly Maara (Suriya), is the son of a school teacher Rajangam (Poo Ramu) and hails from a village near Madurai. Though he works in the army, his aim is to start a low-cost airline, to empower the poor to travel in flight.
He is ably backed by his wife Sundari alias Bommi (Aparna Balamurali), a self-made woman who has her own dream of setting up a bakery.
However, Maara’s dream of starting an airline faces so many hurdles, mainly due to Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal), a leader in the aviation industry.
By joining hands with officials, he tries his best to stop Maara. The rest of Soorarai Pottru is all about whether Maara is able to achieve his dream or not.
ANALYSIS:
After 24, Suriya gets a meaty role in Soorarai Pottru thanks to Sudha Kongara and does justice to it. Aparna Balamurali steals the show with her splending performance and we rarely get to see such strong women characters on screen.
Urvashi is terrific, while the likes of Karunas, Poo Ramu, Mohan Babu, Vivek Prasanna, Krishnakumar and Kaali Venkat are there.
G V Prakash’s musical score, Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography, Sathish Suriya’s editing and other technical departments help the director in presenting the movie in the way she wanted to.
Script by Shalini Ushadevi and Sudha Kongara avoid that docu feel. However, the villain character looks like an extension of Jackie Shroff’s in Bigil. And, the film’s length is another problem.
The film is inspired by Captain GR Gopinath’s Simply Fly and ‘stories from the aviation industry’, and Sudha Kongara has tried her best to make it intense and emotional.
