STORY:

Santa (Santhanam) is a happy go lucky youngster who kidnaps the sister of an influential gangster (Sampath) so that she could marry her boyfriend.

But this act of him earns him the wrath of the don, who vows to teach a lesson to Santa. One day, Santa comes across a beautiful girl Yazhini (Vaibhavi Shandilya) and it’s love at first sight for him.

Santa desparately woos Yazhini who too falls for him. As it happens, she turns out to be the another sister of the same gangster, who now strongly opposes Santa’s affair with her.

The rest of Sakka Podu Podu Raja is all about how Santa convinces the gangster to achieve his mission- to unite with the love of his life.

ANALYSIS:

Santhanam was going great guns till he was comedian. In fact, he was the number one. And after he started doing heroic roles, his films were neither big blockbusters nor utter flops.

Now, the television anchor-turned-comedian-turned-hero has tried to become a super hero with Sakka Podu Podu Raja and the result may not be as good as he would have expected.

When Tamil cinema is moving towards realistic themes and rare subjects, Santhanam has travelled the familiar and cliched path of so-called commercial entertainers which have hero-worship scenes, gravity-defying fight sequences and comedy scenes on expected lines.

But still, Santhanam has delivered his best and some of his dialogues deserve to be lauded. The efforts he had put in need appreciation. Vaibhavi Shandilya is your regular heroine, while Vivek (as a taxi driver in Delhi) and VTV Ganesh try to tickle the funny bone.

Simbu, who has made his debut as music director with this movie, has done a decent job. Abinandhan’s clear cinematography is a plus point of Sakka Podu Podu Raja. Had only director G L Sethuraman taken more interest in chiseling the script than focusing on the heroism of Santhanam, SPPR would have been a great entertainer.
