Brave & Beautiful

Rudhramadevi Movie Review by ChennaiVisionGanapatideva (Krishnam Raju) is the emperor of the Kakatiya dynasty who rules from Orugallu. Rudhrama (Anushka), daughter of Ganapatideva, the emperor of the Kakatiya dynasty, was officially designated a son through the ancient Putrika ceremony and given the name Rudhradeva so that she could succeed her father after his death.

Rudhrama Devi begins to rule the kingdom jointly with her father as his co-regent under the name of Rudradeva Maharaja.

In the first two or three years of their joint rule, the kingdom is thrown into confusion and disorder due to invasion and the disastrous defeat of the Kakatiyas and their allies on the battle field of Muttukur, near Nellore.

In the meantime, Rudramadevi gets married to Veerabhadra (Rana Daggubati), a Vengi Chalukya (a branch of the Chalukyas of Badami) prince of Nidadavolu. How she fights back to restore the dignity of the dynasty and kingdom is the crux of ‘Rudhramadevi’.

ANALYSIS

Popular Tollywood director Gunasekhar, after working hard for more than a decade, has come out with ‘Rudhramadevi’. The director’s story telling ability and narration are the plus points of the movie, coupled with Anushka Shetty’s performance.

The actress has delivered a solid performance. She makes us believe that she is a queen, with her looks, body language and power packed performance. And she gives us awe in stunt sequences.

Watching the film in 3D is magnificient though the graphic works are not up to the mark in some scenes. Allu Arjun has delivered a splendid performance, while Nithya Menen, Catherine Tresa and others are also there.

Music by maestro Ilayaraja is another strength, while Ajayan Vincent and Sreekar Prasad have given their best in cinematography and editing, respectively.

On the flip side, the film is not as rich as promised and some scenes may appear alien for Tamil audience. But after ‘Baahubali’, here is something about our ancestors to attract us.
