Puriyatha Puthir Tamil Movie Review

Mystery, no history

STORY:

Kathir (Vijay Sethupathi) wants to become a music director and takes care of a music instruments shop, owned by his friend. One day, Meera (Gayathrie) comes to the shop to buy a violin.

While shopping, she plays a beautiful tune and this sparks into a friendship between the two. As days pass, their friendship blossoms into love.

Even as some of his friends are in danger, Kathir receives another shock, as someone sends obscene pictures and videos of Meera to his mobile phone.

Also, Kathir receives an anonymous phone call and the caller blackmails him to do certain things to get rid off problems in his life. Is Kathir able to come out of hurdles?

ANALYSIS:

After playing a middle-aged man in his last release Vikram Vedha, Vijay Sethupathi looks refreshing in Puriyatha Puthir. He excels in performance, especially in romantic scenes.

Understanding fully well that her character is pivot and the entire script revolves around her, Gayathrie has delivered a commendable performance. Others in the cast are apt for their respective roles.

Sam CS, who gave terrific music in Vikram Vedha, has given decent songs and background score in Puriyatha Puthir. Cinematographer Dinesh Krishnan has provided what is needed for a thriller movie.

Director Ranjith Jayakodi has emerged successful in showing ill-effects of sharing porn clips via social media. But the film would have been more interesting had he focussed more on presenting a gripping screenplay.
