Tiger Rise

STORY:

Marudheeran (Vijay) is the son of a village chieftain. He is in love with Pavazhamalli (Shruti Haasan) right from a young age and their marriage too happens.

However on the day of their wedding, warriors of Vedhalam kingdom, ruled by magician-queen Sridevi who is ably supported by her evil commander (Sudeep), kidnap Pavazhamalli.

Marudheeran is now told the story of Vedhalam kingdom and his past by his father. He is now out on a journey to rescue his wife and restore the pride of his people.

On his way, he encounters a variety of people, animals, birds, things and of course the beautiful princess (Hansika), daughter of Vedhalam queen.

The rest is all about who is Marudheeran and whether he is able to achieve the mission. Watch out for a surprise when you come to know about his father.

ANALYSIS:

No doubt, Puli is a completely different attempt from Vijay, who has picked a contrast story when compared to his ventures so far. But how good is it?

The first half takes it own time to settle and it is slow too, we must say. A lot of time has been taken to establish an array of characters. These things hardly sustain our interest.

But the second half is interesting and it’s a delight to Vijay fans. The general audience too, especially kids, have a lot to cherish (good graphics works and neat cinematography).

Vijay looks a tad youthful than his previous outing and it’s refreshing to watch him as a warrior. Shruti fills the glamour quotient, while Hansika has limited scope to perform. Sridevi is stunning and Sudeep is cunning as commander.

Devi Sri Prasad’s background score is racy, while songs like Yendi…Yendi… and Jingiliyana… are hum-worthy. Once again we laud the good efforts of cinematographer and VFX tram. Equal credits to art director and costumers.

Director Chimbu Devan has clearly decided to deliver a totally different dish for Vijay fans and audience. Agreed and welcomed. But certain ingredients are very less, while some other things are high. Thus, this Puli leaves a different taste and is not a very filling experience.

Rating: Average.
