NGK Movie Review
STORY:
Nandha Gopalan Kumaran (Suriya) is an M Tech graduate in Srivilliputhur. He is more interested towards social work and involves himself in it with his group of friends. And his wife Mythili (Sai Pallavi) supports him in all his acts.
He also takes up organic farming. As he desires to do good to the people and the country, he understands that it is not possible without he entering politics.
Hence, he becomes friend of local MLA (Ilavarasu) and soon climbs the political ladder. He also meets the party’s leader (Ponvannan) and also gets in touch with Vanathi (Rakul), a political strategist roped in by the party.
Unable to stomach the growing clout of NGK, the Chief Minister (DevaraJ) hatches a plan to finish him off. As election nears, it is now a high pitched battle between NGK and those in power.
ANALYSIS:
To be fair, NGK directed by Selvaraghavan with Suriya in the lead role reminds one of the recently released LKG and Selva’s cult hit Pudupettai in many places. And there are shades of Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Koottam too.
As a result, it ends up as a neither here nor there kind of stuff. But, Suriya’s hardwork must be lauded as the actor has put his heart and soul in the film. Sai Pallavi gets ample scope to show her talent.
Rakul Preet does justice to her role, while the likes of Ponvannan, Ilavarasu and Devaraj are apt choices for their respective characters.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is one of the biggest highlights of the movie. Equally good is cinematography by Sivakumar Vijayan. Praveen K L’s editing is good at places.
The film starts on a promising note, but struggles later, especially towards the second half. May be, Selvaraghavan could have found it difficult to strike a fine balance between his content and Suriya’s image.
