Naanthan Shabana Tamil Movie Review

Slow & Strong

STORY:

Shabana (Taapsee Pannu), a reserved second year B Com student, stays with her widowed mother and her life is all about Kudo training and her mom.

Her classmate Jai (Taher Mithaiwala), who is attracted by her, only gets disappointment as answer as Shabana does not entertain him despite him ferrying her back and forth from college.

But when they finally go out on date, she opens up about her dark past and reciprocates his feelings. However, on their way home, a gang of eve-teasers surrounds them and what follows is a tragedy.

The rest of the story is about how Shabana, by putting aside all her personal tragedies, emerges a special agent who is entrusted the task of assassinating a deadly arms dealer (Prithviraj) by the Indian Intelligence Agencies.

ANALYSIS

Apparently buoyed by the response evoked by Shabana character in Baby, direction Shivam Nair has decided to tell her story as a full-fledged film.

Though her risky action-sequence in a Kathmandu hotel room, when accompanying Ajay Singh (Akshay Kumar) on a mission, provided the required adrenaline-rush in Babu, the josh is missing in Naan Thaan Shabana, Tamil version of Naam Shabana.

Taapsee Pannu shines as the secret agent with a dark past. Prithviraj is cool and casual in his role, while Akshay Kumar, in an extended cameo, gives his best.

Technical departments are as strong as any modern day Bollywood film and the proceedings pick up last 35 minutes. Since Taapsee and Prithviraj are popular in these parts, Tamil audience may welcome ‘Naan Thaan Shabana’.
