Marina Puratchi: Revolution, evolution

STORY:

Marina Puratchi is based on the 8-day protest in January 2017, when Tamil people across the world demanded a removal of the ban on Jallikattu.

Sukanya (Shruthi Reddy) and Parthasarathy (Naveen) attend an interview for the post of a reporter in a private television channel.

The interviewer, who feels that they do not know much about the history of jallikattu and the protests which happened a few years ago, gives them two weeks’ time to learn thoroughly about the traditional sport.

The rest of the film is about their research on jallikattu and their presentation about the bull-taming sport to the interview board.

ANALYSIS:

Marina Puratchi is directed by M S Raj. The director has done in-depth research about the world famous agitation and it deserves special mention.

He has tried to tell the audience a few ‘truths’ which, he believed, were concealed from the public during the Jallikattu protest.

After getting screened successfully in several countries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Yemen, Singapore and Malaysia, the movie has hit the screens in Tamil Nadu.

Lead actors have given decent performance. We get the feeling of watching a documentary at many places. But still, the film works because of its theme and presentation.
