Lockup Review
STORY:
A police officer named Sampath (Mime Gopi) is murdered in his posh bungalow and the investigation is handed over to Inspector Ilavarasi (Eswari Rao). Before that, Sub-Inspector Moorthy (Venkat Prabhu) arrests a local goon for Sampath’s murder.
As Ilavarasi takes up the investigation, she finds loopholes the case. For example, the knife which was used for the murder is different from the knife which was spotted at the scene.
Also, Vasanth (Vaibhav), a subordinate to Murthy, who was assigned the suicide case of a house maid, finds that her death is related to the murdered cop. In the meantime, the arrested goon dies and the case gets complex.
The rest is all about who is the real culprit, who is helping them out, what is the reason behind Sampath’s murder and whether Ilavarasi is able to catch the murderers.
ANALYSIS:
Directed by S G Charles, Lockup is an interesting knot that goes haywire due to unimpressive narration. Though the film has a runtime of just 1 hour and 46 minutes, it makes us feel exhausted.
After Kaala, Eswari Rao gets a meaty role and delivers a convincing performance. Venkat Prabhu and Vaibhav add value to the content with their performance. Vani Bhojan is there in a blink and miss role.
Arrol Corelli’s background score is strength to the film, while the cinematography by Santhanam Sekhar is good. Though editor Anand Gerald has tried to keep the proceedings crisp, things are far from interesting.
Production values and lip sync too go for toss. If you have 106 mintues of free time during the lockdown, you can spend them watching this latest release on OTT platform.
