Kuppathu Raja Movie Review

A slum in Chennai is ruled by M G Rajendran aka MGR (R Parthiban). An ardent fan of MGR and a do-gooder, people living in the slum look up to him for all important things.

Rocket (G V Prakash Kumar), a youth in the area, is the son of Rajendran’s aide (MS Baskar). He is a happy go lucky youngster with a carefree attitude.

He falls in love with Kamala (Palak Lalwani), a girl from the same slum. When things appear to be going smooth, entry of Mary (Poonam Bajwa) and some anti-social elements change things in the lives of people in the slum.

A string of untoward and unexpected things happen, leading Rocket to take revenge on those who wreaked havoc on his life.

After playing a local guy in his recent flick Sarvam Thaala Mayam, G V Prakash has played a slum-living youth in Kuppathu Raja, a title which suggests well the backdrop of the movie.

Directed by Baba Bhaskar, the film has some interesting scenes in store. But it fails to offer anything new since we are used to its screenplay and narration.

GVP has transformed himself into a slum boy, while Palak Lalwani pulls it off. Some lines of Yogi Babu are funny. Poonam Bajwa has been used for the purpose of glamour.

There are two gems and they are Parthiban and M S Baskar. Another highlight of the movie is the art department. Kudos for bringing alive slum area on the sets.

Mahesh Muthuswamy has lent major support to Kuppathu Raja with his camera. Though Kuppathu Raja has its own moments, we can’t avoid the feeling that the plot could have been developed in an more interesting/intriguing way.
