Kennedy Club Movie Review

Kennedy Club: All in the game

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

STORY:

Savarimuthu (Bharathiraja) is an ex-serviceman. He spends a major portion of his savings to coach a women’s kabaddi team in the village, as most of the players hail from poor economic background.

Muruganandham (Sasikumar) is a former student of Savarimuthu. He now works in the Southern Railway after getting a job there through the sports quota.

One day, Savarimuthu suffers from a massive heart attack and is unable to train the women’s kabaddi team. Following this, Muruganandham is called to fill his mentor’s shoes.

Ahead of a crucial tournament, the team faces multiple obstacles including a wicked person in the selection committee. Is the underdog team able to win the tourney and bring honours to Tamil Nadu?

ANALYSIS:

The idea behind Kennedy Club, directed by Suseenthiran, is absolutely fine. But the way things have been executied don’t fill the appetite of the audience, especially those who expected a lot from the filmmaker, given his experience in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu.

Coming close on the heels of the release of Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu-2, Kennedy Club sounds like the third part of the series, but there are enough differences.

Sasikumar dishes out his best, while Bharathiraja appears too fragile for his role. Members of the kabaddi team and their backstories are emotionally connecting and appealing.

D Imman has come up with music that gels well with the mood of the movie, while R B Gurudev’s camera has worked the racy moves of the sport.

Despite its flaws and mediocre writing, Kennedy Club makes us to say that it is better when compared to the recent outings of Suseenthiran. But we expect more from him.
