Funny Fish

STORY:

Pandian, popularly known as ‘Bad Luck’ Pandian (Sibiraj), suffers without good things in life. But his father believes that all will become well if his son marries a girl whose name’s starting letter is C.

However, Pandian falls in love with Meena (Aishwarya Rajesh) and elopes with her to tie the knot, as his parents are against the marriage. Eventually, they find it difficult to make the ends meet.

In the meantime, a don named Vanjaram (Mime Gopi) believes that a vaasthu fish Kattappa is the reason behind his victory. One day, the fish goes missing and Vanjaram too loses all his power.

Even as he gives his best try to find out the fish, it goes to Pandian through a friend. Does Pandian become lucky? Does he become wealthy? Is Vanjaram able to get the fish back? Answers to these question lie with Kattappava Kaanom.

ANALYSIS:

If you are a lover of black comedy films that move slow, you will like Kattappava Kaanom, directed by Mani Seyon, a former associate of filmmaker Arivazahgan.

With an overdose of double meaning dialogues, Kattappava Kaanom entertains in its own pace. Well, that works to the film’s advantage and disadvantage.

Sibiraj has improved a lot, while Aishwarya Rajesh rocks as usual. Mime Gopi, Thirumurugan, Jayakumar, Kaali Venkat, Monica and Chandini are good. But the real hero is the fish.

Santhosh Dhayanidhi’s music is nice, especially the Hey Penne song. Jeeva’s cinematography sticks to the script. The film runs for just 125 minutes.

So it’s enough if you have little more than two hours in your hand to watch Kattappava Kaanom if you are a lover of dark comedies. For others, the 125 minutes might feel so long.
