Kaatru Veliyidai Tamil Movie Review
Love is in ‘air’
STORY:
Varun Chakrabani aka VC (Karthi) is a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force. He falls for army doctor Leela Abraham (Aditi Hydari Rao), who saves him from an accident.
While Varun is self-centric, Leela is a woman of self-esteem. Soon, difference of opinion crops up between the two, as Leela realises that it is difficult for her to put up with VC’s nature.
As Leela wants equality in the relationship and she fails to get it from VC, she decides to walk away from his life. And soon, Varun is taken as prisoner by Pakistan and is lodged in a prison there.
One day, VC gets an opportunity to escape from Pakistan. Is he able to come to India? What happened to his love affair with Leela? Are the two able to join hands in life by burying their differences? Kaatru Veliyidai has the answer for all these questions.
ANALYSIS:
Mani Ratnam, the maestro of romance, and A R Rahman, the master of music, have come together to create a mesmerising magic in Kaatru Veliyidai, in their 25th year of sailing together.
The film, despite its predictability and pace, is nothing short of a magic. Right from the story to performance to visuals to music to technical aspects, everything in Kaatru Veliyidai captures our mind and heart.
Performance wise, it is Aditi Rao Hydari who steals the show. Though she doesn’t look like a Tamil girl, that is no hindrance as the story is set in a different backdrop. Karthi has taken pains to remodel himself and the result is good.
R J Balaji, Rukmani Vijayakumar and Delhi Ganesh chip in well.
Ravi Varman’s camera has done a fantastic job in capturing the rich visuals of Kashmir, Mani Ratnam’s favourite destination thanks to Roja.
Kaatru Veliyidai is an usual love story. But it should be watched for the sheer magic, brilliance and treatment of Mani Ratnam, Rahman and the team.
