Irudhi Suttru Tamil Movie Review

Winning round

STORY:

Prabhu (Madhavan) is a boxing coach. As he has a running feud with boxing federation chief Dev (Zakir Hussain), he is transfered to Chennai under baseless sexual harassment charges.

Initially, Prabhu is irked with lack of qualified boxers in Chennai. But his idea changes when he comes across fisherwoman Madhi (Ritika Singh), who accompanies her boxer sister Lux (Mumtaz Sorcar) for training.

Prabhu thinks Madhi is a naturally gifted boxer and trains her by even paying her money. As days go, Madhi falls for Prabhu and loses a qualifier round. This upsets Prabhu a lot.

And the rest is all about how Madhi compensates for her loss and makes Prabhu and the country proud by making it big in a box tourney.

ANALYSIS:

Hats off to Madhavan and director Sudha Kongura for presenting such a film with all conviction and dedication. While Madhavan deserves to be lauded for a rock solid performance, Sudha Kongura walks away with honours for intense research, gripping screenplay and interesting making.

And who is this Ritika Singh? The newcomer performs like a seasoned actor and even overtakes the likes of Nasser in some scenes. She is the life and blood of the movie.

Santhosh Narayanan’s music, both songs and background score, is another hero of the movie. Cinematography and editing departments have lent solid support to Sudha Kongura.

To list out the negative points which are very few, they are the sluggish pace in the first half and predictable scenes. But Irudhi Suttru is a gripping sports drama and a honest movie. You are not supposed to miss it if you love good films.
