Diya Tamil Movie Review
STORY:
Thulasi (Sai Pallavi) and Krishna (Naga Shourya), both in 20s, are in relationship. As they get intimate physically, Thulasi ends up getting pregnant.
Their parents come to know of it and are shocked. Thulasi’s family members urge her to abort the baby, as she needs to focus on studies and become doctor.
Five years later, both get married. But Thulasi realises that those who compelled her for abortion, including her parents and the doctor, get killed.
Soon, she also realises that they are not natural deaths and are because of her ‘baby’, whom she calls as Diya (Baby Veronika).
And now, the next target of Diya is her own father. Is Thulasi able to save her husband or not forms the rest of the story.
ANALYSIS:
For the first time, director Vijay has shifted his focus towards an eerie thriller, which is the flavour of K-town these days, and has done a decent job.
Sai Pallavi has made a commendable debut in Tamil cinema with Diya, while others in the cast, including RJ Balaji, are adequate.
Major highlights of the movie are Nirav Shah’s visuals and music by Sam CS, who is fresh from the success of Vikram Vedha.
Sai Pallavi strikes a fine balance as a mother who has missed her child and a wife who wants to save her husband. Director Vijay, who has narrated an emotional tale, has missed to make it gripping in some parts.
Some characters are underwritten and certain portions could have been better. But despite these things, Diya manages to leave some touching and haunting moments.
