Soundarapandian (Sarath Kumar), a police officer, gets transferred from Chennai to Coimbatore. There, he lands on an intriguing case on his very first day on the job.
For, posters asking ‘Will Angel’s death be today or tomorrow?’ are all over the textile city and Soundarapandian puts his best efforts to crack the one behind the sinister materials.
In the meantime, his adopted daughter receives a letter warning her of dire consequences. And to the shock of all, the letter is signed by the mysterious ‘Angel’?
Who is ‘Angel’? Is it a woman, man or a group? What is the motive? Why the posters were pasted all over Coimbatore? Who is really in danger and why? Chennaiyil Oru Naal seeks to find answers to all these questions.
ANALYSIS:
Sequels are the current fad of Tamil cinema and this could perhaps be the only reason behind director JPR deciding to name the movie as Chennaiyil Oru Naal, inspired by the well received 2013-thriller.
The entire story takes place in Coimbatore and Sarath Kumar’s role is not the character he had played in the first part. Having played a cop in n-number of movies, he delivers a solid performance in CON-2.
Suhasini Maniratnam, Napoleon, Munishkanth and Rajasimhan are there in the cast and all of them have delivered decent performance.
The script is by veteran crime novel writer Rajesh Kumar and his impact could be felt in many scenes. In trademark Rajesh Kumar style, the film deals with too many things like harmful inmate in an asylum, unexpected death, paid killer and a drug that enhances memory power.
Cinematographer Vijay Deepak has done a good job by experimenting with lights and angles, while Jakes Bejoy (of Dhuruvangal Pathinaaaru fame) has complemented the director well.
But the script wanders here and there and the characters fail to strike a chord with the audience. However, Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2 can be enjoyable to those who loved reading crime novels.
