Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings Tamil Movie Review

Sixes and fours

STORY:

After close to a decade, things have changed a lot in the lives of Chennai Sharks team members. All of them have turned into men who are now burdened with family responsibilities, and are yearning for their previously carefree lives.

Opportunity to relive their golden days comes in the form of Raghu (Jai)’s wedding. It is when the members who attend the function try to have a little fun, do things go awry. The wedding gets cancelled and they get shamed in front of their wives and others.

How the team members unite and foil the ploys of Vaibhav, who is the captain of the rival team in Theni and at the same time ensure that Jai gets married, forms the rest of the story.

ANALYSIS:

Cricket and comedy is the cup of tea of Venkat Prabhu. While Chennai 28 was purely about cricket, the biggest hit in his career so far, Mankatha, too revolved around cricket betting.

After a few flop shows trying his hands in other genres, Venkat Prabhu strikes sixer again with this sequel to Chennai 28, With good writing and execution, he has bounced back, we can say.

All the actors (the list is too long) have chipped in with their best performance. And the silent strength is the music of Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has always given nothing but his best to his cousin.

On the flip side, certain scenes are too predictable. But these things don’t stop us from enjoying this sequel to Chennai 28, which is like meeting our old friends after a long gap.
