Aval – Review

Krish (Siddharth), a neurosurgeon and his wife Lakshmi (Andrea Jeremiah), who is a homemaker, live a happy life in the silent valley of Himalayas.

All is well till the family of Paul (Atul Kulkarni) moves in to the locality by buying a house next to Krishs’. Jenny, the elder daughter of Paul, begins witnessing paranormal activities.

Slowly but steadily, everyone in the family is terrorised by strange happenings and visions of dead people. Krish and Lakshmi too are no exception.

The two families witness so many twists and turns in their lives which lead them towards a great adventure. Who are the deadly ghosts and why they haunt these people?

ANALYSIS:

At a time when Kollywood is making comedy of ghosts by churning out so many eerie-comedies, here comes Aval, which takes ghosts and audience serious.

In other words, the film directed by Miliind Rau is perhaps Kollywood’s answer to Hollywood horror thrillers in terms of standards and scares.

Siddharth is simply superb in his role. His expressions of doubt, fear and 18+ comedy are enjoyable to watch. Andrea, who is familiar to this genre thanks to Aranmanai, is perfect as Lakshmi and it is a cake walk role for her.

Atul Kulkarni fits well to his role, while Anisha Angelina Victor, who comes as his elder daughter in the film, has delivered a mind blowing performance.

The other highlights of the movie are Giriish’s music, Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography and Lawrence’s cuts. All the above have done their jobs to near perfection.

On the flipside, the plot is familiar and a few scenes are predictable too. But Aval will definitely keep you on the edge of the seat and there would be no disappointment if you are a lover of horror thrillers.
