North Madras Talkies

STORY:

Attu (Rishi Rithvik), a small-time thug, lives with four friends near a dumping yard since childhood. He and his friends are ready to do anything for the sake of money.

Sundari (Archana Ravi), a teenager in Attu’s neighbourhood, falls for him and openly proposes her love for him. Though Attu is initially hesitant considering his lifestyle, he gives in later and reciprocates.

But Sundari’s father, a widower who has sacrificed his life to bring up his daughter, is not happy with their affair. In the meantime, Attu wants to come out of bad things for the sake of Sundari and wants to bury differences with all his rivals.

But fate has other plans and he finds himself in the middle of much bigger crime and plots. A gang also vows to eliminate him. Is he able to come out of the dark world and join hands with Sundari?

ANALYSIS:

Attu, directed by (debutant) Rathan Linga is yet another hard hitting movie from a newbie filmmaker. So realistic and raw, it portrays the lives of a bunch of people who live in north Chennai.

The director and his team have managed to successfully capture the moods, emotions and lifestyle of people there. They have also backed it up with a gripping tale and all these things work in favour of Attu.

Rishi Rithvik and Archana Ravi, the lead actors, have not performed, but lived their respective characters. Yogi Babu is good with his body language, while all others, including Bala Singh are right fit to their respective roles.

Music by Bobo Sasi is another highlight. Cinematographer Ramalingam takes us to north Chennai with all his angles and colour tones. Art director Suresh Galleri deserves a special mention.

On the flip side, we have seen many such movies in the past, and hence, it is not easy to predict what is going to happen. But there is no denying that Attu is an engaging movie with impressive authenticity and gripping screenplay.
