90 ML Movie Review
High on spirit
STORY:
Thamarai (Bommu Lakshmi), Kajal (Masoom Shankar), Paru (Sree Gopika) and Suganya (Monisha Ram) live in an apartment complex. Each one of them has her own set of problems in life.
While Thamarai gets addicted to drinking as she is scared of her rogue husband who is a henchman, Kajal’s husband has an extra-marital affair since they are unable to spend quality time on bed due to their daughter.
For Paru, her husband can’t forget his ex-lover, and hence, is unable to focus on family. Suganya’s problem is that her family is against her love affair since her lover is a girl.
Even as the above four are unable to find a way to come out of their problems, enters Rita (Oviya) to the flat complex. She is in a live-in relationship and enjoys life in her own terms.
She befrieds Thamarai, Kajal, Paru and Suganya and suggests solutions to their problems. She also wants them to enjoy life to the fullent extent possible.
ANALYSIS
The big highlight of 90 ML, directed by Anitha Udeep, no prizes for guessing, is, Oviya. Adding more to it is the striking resemblane of her on-screen character to her real life (outspoken, bold and friendly at the same time) personality as seen in Bigg Boss.
Oviya sizzles in her role as Rita, a carefree young woman. Equally good are Bommu Lakshmi and Sree Gopika. Monisha Ram and Masoom Shankar have also emoted well.
Director Anita Udeep has taken up a nice and relevant concept of women empowerment and breaking taboo of women should discuss certain topics only. However, she has glorified smoking and drinking in the process.
Simbu’s cameo is good, while his music is average. Cinematography by Aravind Krishna shows the glossiness of Chennai, especially its night life. Editing is crisp with a run-time of 124 minutes.
The first half of the film is watchable and enjoyable, while the second half tests our patience with the screenplay and endless stretches. A strong screenplay would have made the movie better.
