Tamil film industry gets a Deepavali boost as Vijay releases Rs 16 crore in pending subsidies

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has reportedly released nearly Rs 16 crore in long-pending subsidies for 224 Tamil film productions, bringing relief to producers who had been waiting for financial assistance for seven years.

Film producer T Siva announced the development on social media on Saturday, thanking the chief minister for clearing the pending grants.

Siva said the release of funds would provide renewed hope to 224 producers and their families, many of whom had suffered significant financial losses through film production.

He described the assistance as a Diwali gift for people whose livelihoods depend on the film industry.

According to Siva, around 90% of the beneficiaries had experienced financial difficulties or lost their livelihoods due to their involvement in film production.

The subsidy release is expected to offer financial relief to struggling producers and support the wider Tamil film industry. Siva, who entered film production with Solvathellam Unmai in 1987, has also backed films such as Saroja (2008) and Aravaan (2012).
