Talks going on to release extended version of Retro: Karthik Subbaraj

It appears there are talks and efforts to release an extended cut of the Tamil film Retro, starring Suriya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj.

Karthik Subbaraj has publicly stated that he is attempting to convince Netflix, where the film is currently streaming, to release an extended cut or limited series version of Retro.

He envisions this extended version to be more than just deleted scenes, aiming to provide deeper explanations for the film’s action, emotions, and world-building, potentially in four to five episodes, each around 40 minutes long.

However, as of the latest information, Netflix has not officially agreed to this plan. Karthik Subbaraj is actively trying his best to make it happen, but there’s no confirmation of its release yet due to business aspects.

The theatrical release of Retro was on May 1, 2025, and it later premiered on Netflix on May 31, 2025.

While the film received mixed reviews, the idea of an extended cut has generated interest, particularly among those who felt the original theatrical release had some pacing and plot issues.
