The police have decided to take video of Ramkumar, the accused in the murder case of techie Swathi, and to match it with with the visuals obtained from CCTV cameras located close to Nungambakkam railway station on the day of crime- June 24.
The 14th Magistrate Metropolitan court has agreed to provide Ramkumar one day police custody to recreate the scene and help in comparing CCTV footage of the crime.
Earlier, Ramkumar’s lawyer alleged that there were several discrepancies in the police statements and this is perhaps going to play a crucial role in the state.
However, it is not clear if the court permitted police to obtain signatures from Ramkumar, as plead by the government counsel. However, the defense counsel said they will be appealing in the High Court against the magistrate court’s order.
“The court’s permission granted to the police is against law. We will contest it in the high court,” said advocate Gurumurthy, who on Thursday appeared on behalf of Ram Kumar.
Police would compare the footage to establish Ramkumar as the killer. Police conducted an inquiry while Ramkumar was in their custody for three days from July 13 to 15, it may be recalled.
