Suriya’s Karuppu skips Deepavali release
Actor Suriya’s highly anticipated film, Karuppu, will not be releasing for the upcoming Deepavali festival.
The film, directed by RJ Balaji, was widely expected to be a major Deepavali release, with a massive buzz surrounding the project since its announcement.
The decision to postpone the release was confirmed by sources close to the production team.
While a specific new release date has not yet been announced, reports suggest that the film may now target a Pongal 2026 release, potentially setting up a major box office clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which is already slated for the same festive window.
The news comes as a surprise, as the film’s team had initially been aiming for a Deepavali release.
Karuppu, which marks Suriya’s 45th film and a return to a more rural avatar, has generated significant excitement among fans.
The film’s teaser, which was released on Suriya’s birthday on July 23, received a tremendous response, further fueling anticipation for a festive release.
However, it is now understood that some shooting sequences and post-production work remain incomplete.
The production house, Dream Warrior Pictures, is reportedly taking a cautious approach to ensure the film is completed to the highest standard, rather than rushing for a Deepavali release.
