It looks like it is time for Suriya and Gautham Vasudev Menon, one of the hit combos of Tamil cinema, to come together again. Remember the good friends parted ways a few years ago.
As Monday (August 1) marked 13 years of Kaakha Kaakha, Gautham wrote on Twitter: “Thank you! Kaakha Kaakha is special & wouldn’t have been possible without the intensity of @Suriya_offl. Thank you Suriya,Jyotika,Harris,RD, Anthony,Rajeevan,Tamarai, my producer Dhanu sir & everybody else on the team!#13YrsOfTrooperANBUSELVAN.”
Replying to this, Suriya posted: “It’s Jo’s n my all time favourite film.! One film that changed everything for me.! Thank you @menongautham.”
This has led to specualtions that the director and actor have buried their differences that cropped during Dhruva Natchathiram and would come together soon.
Kaakha Kaakha released to highly positive reviews in August 2003 and went on to become the first biggest blockbuster in Suriya’s career, and was considered a comeback film for producer Kalaipuli S. Dhanu. Owing to the success, the film has been remade in several languages.
The film was initially titled as Paathi (Half), before the team opted to change the title to Kaakha Kaakha. Gautham revealed that he was inspired to make the film after reading of articles on how encounter specialists shoot gangsters and how their families get threatening calls in return, and initially approached Ajith Kumar and Vikram for the role without success.
