Supreme Court issues notice to UP government regarding cancellation of bail of Ashish Mishra

The Supreme Court has  issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and asked it to file a reply on a plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ashish Mishra, who is the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra.

Taking note of the alleged attack on a witness, a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana directed the state government to take necessary steps to ensure the protection of witnesses in the case.

The Supreme Court will hear the matter next on March 24.

On Tuesday, advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for some farmers, had informed the court that there was an attack on one of the prime witnesses of the case.

Bhushan also said other accused in the matter were also approaching the Allahabad high court for bail seeking parity with the prime accused.
