The Madras High Court has quashed the orders of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, dated July 15, 2015, refusing permission to Sun TV Network, Kal Radio, South Asia FM and Udaya FM to migrate to Phase III FM Regime.
Following this, Sun TV and its group companies can participate in the phase III auctions for FM Radio stations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Visakhapatnam.

In his order on Tuesday, Justice M Duraiswamy directed the Ministry to announce the name of successful bidders subject to the other conditions beng fulfilled by the appicants.
“…the impugned orders dated 15.7.2016 denying the security clearance of the petitioner are liable to be set aside. Accordingly the same are set aside,” said the order.
Due to denial of security clearance, the group companies were disallowed from participating in the phase III of auction for FM radio stations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Visakhapatnam.
On July 15, 2015, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting published a list of broadcasters permitted to migrate from phase II to III.
