State Education Policy is pointless: Anbumani Ramadoss
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) President Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss delivered a scathing critique of Tamil Nadu’s newly unveiled State Education Policy (SEP) on Tuesday, labeling it a “pointless exercise” and a “disappointment.”
Addressing the media in Chennai, Ramadoss expressed strong disapproval over the policy’s alleged failure to mandate Tamil as the medium of instruction in schools.
Highlighting the extensive three-year deliberation process and numerous appeals from various sections to prioritize Tamil medium education, Ramadoss lamented that the final policy document lacked any concrete measures in this direction. He argued that the SEP appears to be merely a “makeover of the existing system” and voiced concerns that its implementation might lead to a further exodus of students from government to private schools.
“Despite repeated calls and clear recommendations to make Tamil medium education compulsory, the government has failed to incorporate this crucial aspect in the State Education Policy,” stated Dr. Ramadoss. “This renders the entire exercise practically pointless and a significant letdown for those who champion the cause of Tamil language in education.”
Furthermore, the PMK leader raised serious doubts about the autonomy and transparency of the policy-making process. He alleged that the committee responsible for drafting the SEP operated under governmental pressure and that the final version was released without adequate consultation with key stakeholders, including educationalists, parents, and students.
