Stalin threatens to move no-confidence motion against speaker

Leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M K Stalin on Thursday said his party MLAs would bring no-confidence motion against speaker P Dhanapal if he failed to constitute committees as assured.

Stalin, who came to the Fort St George, which houses the secretariat-Assembly complex, today, went to his room and spent some time there.

Speaking to reporters later, he urged the Assembly Speaker to set up the 12 Assembly committees.

He said they have presented a memorandum to the Assembly Secretary to form the committees.

“If the speaker is not coming forward despite his assurance, we will move a no-confidence motion against him. Let him not create such a situation,” Stalin told reporters.

He submitted copies of the resolutions adopted at an all-party meeting, convened by DMK on the Cauvery dispute, to the offices of finance minister O Panneerselvam and the chief secretary.
