Stalin seeks ₹7,033 crore as interim relief and ₹12,659 crore as permanent relief
Chief Minister M K Stalin submitted a memorandum to the visiting central team assessing the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, requesting Rs 7,033 crore as interim relief and Rs 12,659 crore as permanent relief from the Union government.
This demand comes in the background of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announcing that the Prime Minister had directed the Union Home Ministry to release the second instalment of Rs 450 crore to Tamil Nadu’s State Disaster Response Fund in advance.
This revised demand comes after Stalin’s initial request for Rs 5,060 crore as interim relief.
The funds are intended for repairing roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and electric infrastructure, and compensating losses to various communities affected by the cyclone, including the fishing community, micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises, street vendors, and those who lost their livelihoods.
Stalin emphasised the state’s financial constraints in addressing the extensive damages and requested the central team to recommend the necessary relief to the Union government.
