Stalin, Kamal slam CAA

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M K Stalin today came down heavily on the Citizenship Amendment Act and described it as hasty and autocratic. He also alleged the BJP-led Centre’s objective was not India’s progress but trampling the rights of Muslims.

Speaking at a protest meeting in Kanchipuram, he wanted to know whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled his electoral promises like doubling farmers income and two crore jobs per year adding he has not delivered on such assurances.

He added: “The government led by him was, however, only implementing things that were detrimental to the country.” The Leader of Opposition listed out abrogation of Article 370, which ‘stifled democracy in Kashmir,’ and bringing a law against triple talaq (Muslim Women [Protection of Rights on Marriage] Act).

He also questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has not spoke about the CAA. “Palaniswami is known for his character of betrayal. AIADMK cadres know it better than us,”he said.

Meanwhile, actor-filmmaker and Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan today slammed the Centre and the ruling AIADMK over the Citizenship Amendment Act and said his party is opposed to the proposed nation-wide National Register of Citizens.

The AIADMK’s support to the CAA in the Parliament was a betrayal of the Tamils and the nation, he said.

He added: “They are obedient to their masters, you know who their masters are. he said. When asked about his party’s follow up action on the matter, he said his party will take up the cudgels against the NRC as well.
