Sexual assault case: Udhayanidhi, EPS urge CM to oust TVK MLA from post
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami have intensified pressure on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, calling for disciplinary action against Srivaikuntam MLA Saravanan over allegations linked to a sexual assault case involving party functionaries.
In a post on social media, Udhayanidhi referred to a complaint filed by a woman who alleged that she was promised employment and taken away by two individuals associated with the MLA, after which she was sexually assaulted. He further claimed that the complainant had accused Saravanan of attempting to mediate the issue later by offering assistance in securing a government job through Minister N. Anand.
According to Udhayanidhi, the woman has also alleged that another victim faced a similar experience and that senior figures within the party were aware of the matter. He questioned TVK president Vijay’s stand on women’s safety and demanded accountability from the party leadership.
Joining the criticism, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said a thorough investigation was necessary and asked whether the government would proceed against the MLA if the allegations were found to be true.
Meanwhile, the family of one of the accused has sought a CB-CID investigation into the case. Muthu Priya, wife of Balasubramanian, submitted a petition to the district police chief, alleging that her husband had been arrested without a proper probe.
Claiming that the complaint was fabricated, she contended that the case had been filed with the intention of extorting money. She urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation and transfer the case to the CB-CID for further inquiry.
