Senior MDMK functionary quits party – Velachery Manimaran has announced quitting the party, besides leveling charges against Vaiko. Manimaran, considered to be a close aide of Vaiko, was known for presenting costly gifts to the MDMK supremo during rallies and public meetings. The list includes gold coins, gold pen and silver bars.
Manimaran said Vaiko, a veteran politician who had worked under DMK president M Karunanidhi and had met more than nine Prime Ministers of the country, declared someone else (Vijayakanth) as his leader some weeks ago.
“Vaiko always takes wrong decisions. His recent decision to forge alliance with DMDK was a disaster. But he did not listen to us. So I stayed out of party work. But I did not quit due to requests from Pazha Nedumaran and Thol Thirumavalavan (pro-Tamil leaders). Today, I have resigned from the party,” he said.
