Security beefed up ahead of I-Day in Chennai
As many as 9,000 police personnel will be deployed for security duty for the 76th Indian Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday.
At Fort St George, where chief minister M K Stalin will hoist the national flag and deliver an address, and surrounding areas, a five-layer security arrangement will be in place, said an official press release.
There will be intensive checks at the airport, railway stations, bus terminuses, commercial establishments, coastal areas, religious places and in places where people congregate in large numbers, police said.
Checks are also being conducted at lodges, mansions and hotels, with managaers and staff advised to inform police about movement of suspicious people.
Patrol vehicles and beat marshalls have been advised to intensify patrolling and vehicle checks.
