Sasikala tests corona positive, suffers from severe pneumonia

Sasikala, the expelled AIADMK leader has tested positive for Covid-19. On Thursday, Sasikala was shifted to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru from the Parappana Agrahara Prison after her health deteriorated.

Sources said that that Sasikala was tested for the novel coronavirus at Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital but one RT-PCR test came back negative while the other found the expelled AIADMK leader to be positive for the virus.

A Victoria Hospital health bulletin issued this morning said, “Sasikalan was diagnosised of Covid-19  severe pneumonia with Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and hypothyroidism. Her pulse rate stood at 62 bpm, blood pressure 100/68 mm of hg and  respiratory rate at 20 cpm,”

Doctors said they did not know how one report came back negative for Covid-19 since her CT scan showed symptoms.

As per the latest inputs, Sasikala is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Victoria Hospital.

It was only later on Thursday that she was taken to the Victoria Hospital for a CT scan where doctors admitted her to the ICU after results indicated that she may have contracted Covid-19.

Director of the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Dr Manoj Kumar said, “All staff members who came in contact with Sasikala will be quarantined at home. We have followed all the SOPs while dealing with her.”

A close aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister late Jayalalitha, Sasikala was lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Prison four years ago in a disproportionate assets case. She is to be released from jail on the morning of January 27.
