Chennai Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Malarvizhi granted bail to actor-turned-politician S Ve Shekher on Wednesday in connection with a women harassment case.
Apprehending arrest in the case, Shekher had moved the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail.
The court had on May 10 dismissed it and sharply rebuked him, saying that when a celebrity like him forwards such messages, it sends a wrong message to society.
Earlier this month, the court had directed Shekher to appear on June 20 in connection with the case filed against him by the city police for sharing the derogatory post against women journalists on April 19.
Around 10.15 am on Wednesday, Shekher appeared before the Egmore court with police security. Advocate Venkatesh Mahadevan appeared on Shekher’s behalf. Around 1 pm, the chief metropolitan magistrate S. Malarvizhi granted him bail.
Shekher has been asked to appear before the court again on July 18. “He will be presented with the copy of the chargesheet then,” said Mahadevan.
He had been booked under section four of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act based on complaints of a woman journalist.
